RIYADH — The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has confirmed that Riyadh Metro will achieve full operation on Sunday, January 5, with the commencement of the Orange Line (Line 3). This final addition completes the phased rollout of the six-line metro system, designed to revolutionize transport in the city.
The Orange Line, which spans 41 kilometers, connects the eastern and western parts of Riyadh. It stretches from Jeddah Road in the west to the second eastern ring road near the Khashm Al-Aan area. From 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, commuters can access the line at five stations: Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Douh, Harun Al-Rashid Road, and Al-Naseem. Notably, Al-Naseem serves as a key transfer hub between the Orange Line and the Purple Line.
Additionally, three new stations will open on the Blue Line (Line 1), which runs between Olaya Street and Batha. These stations are Al-Morooj, Bank Al-Bilad, and King Fahd Library, expanding the line’s accessibility.
The metro rollout began on December 1, 2024, with the launch of the Blue (Line 1), Yellow (Line 4), and Purple (Line 6) lines. This was followed by the introduction of the Red (Line 2) and Green (Line 5) lines on December 15. With all six lines now operational, the Riyadh Metro covers 176 kilometers, connecting 85 stations, including four major transfer hubs.
As the largest metro system in the Middle East and the world’s longest driverless train network, the Riyadh Metro promises to enhance urban mobility, making it easier for residents and visitors to navigate the city. Operating daily from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, the system provides an efficient, modern alternative to road-based transportation.
Passengers can plan their trips and purchase tickets using the Darb app, station kiosks, ticket counters, or digital payment options such as bank cards and smartphones. For further information, travelers can call the public transport helpline at 19933 or visit the official Riyadh Public Transport website.
This achievement represents a significant step forward for Riyadh, delivering a state-of-the-art public transit network to meet the needs of a growing city.
